We did the genetic testing through OFA about 4 months ago but have suspected the disease for about 12 months now. We are still mobile but each step is a struggle and he continually falls and refuses any type of harness. I am questioning his quality of life, he deserves the best and I don't want him to be depressed. g*dubhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17557378939864168471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8393993099859321653.post-50823359531794681732013-12-03T12:06:35.595-05:002013-12-03T12:06:35.595-05:00Lisa,

What was his name?
You did everything you could, and I hope you felt that you did the very best thing for him at the end. Please see our website, lapoflove.com, as you can post a memorial there for him if you would like. It's a nice thing to revisit when you want to send a special message to him, and your friends/family can do the same.
Sounds like you had a great vet! It's nice to hear about.

Thanks again,

Dr. BradAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02796143217768841241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8393993099859321653.post-48062234754896489352013-12-01T08:18:48.878-05:002013-12-01T08:18:48.878-05:00Dr. Bates…thank you for such an excellent, well wr...Dr. Bates…thank you for such an excellent, well written article. Just 2 weeks ago I had to put my 13 and a half yr. old greyhound down. Pretty sure he had DM, even though it was never formally diagnosed by my vet.
The Vet who euthanized him helped me understand that it could have been DM.
Everything you spoke about was something that I made sure I did: walks, supportive environment, supplements, I massaged him, built a ramp to the outside, and journaled his progress (or regress) from the the time i saw his decline. It helped having those notes to review and be clear about.

thank you for what you do and share.
Glad I found you;)

Lisa ByrneAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09037945608602974944noreply@blogger.com
